Go to bass trombone. More badass than tenor and still cheaper than a tuba. Plus you still play a trombone. You never hear tubas playing the (THX or is it Dolby digital?) giant glissando intro from the movies now do you?

Exactly. Thats what I tell almost everybody I meet. I am competent at tuba, but my main instrument is bass trombone--similar airflow but not as much usually. I puff out my cheeks, I tongue at my lips instead of teeth. All these incorrect things that I do, I play as well as the next person. Most so called "proper methods" are theories that work in practice for a few people, but by no means are the best practices or perfect for more than a handful of people. You must be willing to adjustto needs
