This clip is what I would deem as a piece of movie history. The colour is incredible for 1943 and it is a symbol of uniqueness of film, especially for that era. It is so hard to believe that this is from 1943 because WWII was happening at that time. What a great video.

If you look at the era that this and other carmen miranda things were popular, you'll notice there was a BIG event happening that occupied a lot of people's minds. They wanted to see something this happy and surreal in order to get away from a frightening time.

To a certain extant, that is true. United Fruit was our "good neighbor policy" with Latin America, which prevented the formation of unions and all that nasty vicious stuff that America is famous for. Nevertheless, Carmen Miranda was a marvelous performer and truly a phenomenon, given that she still fascinates and mesmerizes us.
