Depressing. Went to Kauai 7 times in the 1970's, stayed at Cocoa Palms. So beautiful and quiet like I died and went to Heaven. Always my goal to return someday. Seeing this video made me puke with sadness, cause it's not just Hawaii. Every metro area in the US is now choked with traffic. You sit in your car and stare at the same corporate big box stores and restaurants EVERYWHERE. It's the END of culture when the money game creates a world where Kauai looks just like Ohio.

I was there twice twice in 2006 for total of one month, in Bali Hai on North Shore and later in Kapaa, north Shore is nice and serene but Kapaa was a rarther busy little place but in general I had a great time. Oh, lets not forget all the chickens racing with the cars on highways :-)))

Tourism is needed to some extent, and even if not wanted will not stop, but the impact can be lessened, easily done. Start with the cars rentals. Small car rental only, speed governors. these cars are then usually sold on the islands then locals drive small cars as well. New house build limits on size, and energy renewability incorporated into the new house builds ie: solar water heating.

Majority people live here have Aloha Spirit, but we have our share of Kooks to!

its not our fault that the roads are so small if you really want us to stop clogging roads you should write a note to the people who make roads and tell them........you act like its your land.....why dont you come to new york and youll see that we are more clogged.

jqw1295 If you must come, then come with respect. Stay in a resort (not in our local neighborhoods where we raise our keiki), don't rent a car and drive all over clogging our roads. Most resorts are inclusive with eateries, shops, pools. There are too many tourists on this little island and it is the reason the locals have lost all their aloha for touritst. We are trying to live here and raise families, you are playing and annoying!

one thing that you dont realize is that it is still part of the usa and the rest of the world has just as much right to be there....personally i dont care what you say you cant change that

jqw1295 HELLO?? Without tourist there would be no money...plus no traffic???? I was born & raised here. We do not want or need tourist money. What we need is for you to stop coming here. I sit in traffic everyday trying to get to work and you come here for your play week and say there was no traffic at all. You tourists do not have a clue!! Go play somewhere else.

I enjoyed the informative video, but the real entertainment has been reading this commentary. Evidently Hawaiian public schools are as bad as reputed - many of you are no doubt their product. The replies here by-in-large are poorly articulated, use of grammar is atrocious, and the prejudice you seem to share... it's a shame. Unfortunately, 4eleric is right; with so many people moving in you have no future. Further, with the level of racism illustrated here here, I can't feel bad for you.

Its a shame that we can't have a discussion with out deleting the replies of others. If you are going to remove 1 of my posts please just remove them all. Thank you.
